 Commonly used Keyboard Shortcuts.

  By Chronos
This is a tutorial to help cut down on the repetitive tasks that you will use with Photo Impact 7. It is a way of speeding up your work and cutting down on time spent with it.

The Main Shortcuts.

Ctrl + Z
Undo. Multiple times if needed as specified under your 'Preferences'.
Ctrl + Y
Redoes the last command undone.
Ctrl + T
Use this to repeat the last command issued.
+
Zoom in on composition.
-
Zoom out on composition.
Page Up
Scroll image vertically up.
Page Down
Scroll image vertically down.
Home
Scroll image vertically to the left.
End
Scroll image vertically to the right.
Cursor Keys
Use these keys to move an object or selection one pixel up, down, left or right.
Ctrl + X
Cuts an object to be pasted elsewhere.
Ctrl + C
Copies an object to be pasted elsewhere.
Ctrl + V
Pastes an object that was either previously cut or copied from elsewhere.
DEL
Depending on the function, this shortcut can be used to delete a currently active object (or objects) in a composition, erase the entire Base Image or erase the entire contents of a selection.
Ctrl + R
Very handy. Crops the composition to a selection. For instance, if you make a 300x200 pixel selection in a 640x480 pixel composition and hit this shortcut combo, it will automatically crop all the way down to the 300x200 pixel selection.
Ctrl + A
Selects everything within an active object. If the Base Image is selected, it will select the entire Base Image and any merged objects with it as well. Useful for creating backgrounds for use in another composition.
Ctrl + F
Fills an active selection or object with a selected color, gradient, an object from the clipboard or texture (Magic or Natural).
Ctrl + D
Makes an exact duplicate of an active composition for separate use. Excellent for making animated GIFs. Essential. Compare to 'Ctrl + I'.
Ctrl + I
Creates an exact copy of the active composition. Use this to get in closer in a composition and work on it while keeping an eye on the actual size copy to get an idea on how it will look. Remember: anything you do to the copy will reflect in the actual size counterpart and vice versa. Compare to 'Ctrl + D'.
Spacebar
Selects the Base Image, which is the very 'canvas' you lay your objects on in a composition.
.
A neglected shortcut. Use this to display a menu under the mouse pointer that lets you pick the basic set of Tools, like the Path Tool or Selection Tool.
Z
Hold this shortcut down to quickly zoom in on a composition. Let go when done zooming. Left-click to zoom in; right-click to zoom out.
C
Hold this shortcut down to quickly choose another color with the Eyedropper Tool. Left-click to select the Foreground Color, right-click to select the Background Color.
X
Use this shortcut to switch between the Foreground and Background Color. Toggles.
W
Hold down to switch to the Pick Tool. Very handy when you need the tool only briefly.
Tab Hide and show Toolbars and Panels. Toggles.

The following are also very handy shortcuts.

Shift + F4
Use this to arrange all open compositions in the workspace vertically and evenly. I typically use this to compare the original composition with a modified one.
Shift + F5 Great shortcut to make order from chaos. Arranges all open compositions diagonally from left to right and top to bottom in the workspace.
Shift + H
Use this shortcut to open the Fadeout dialog box. A neglected tool, use it to get a fading-out look on objects and selections.
Shift + U
Hides all toolbars and panels and displays current composition at full screen. You can zoom in using '+' and '-'.  Press 'Esc' when done to return to normal workspace. When returning using 'Esc', the composition will be shown at the size it was at before pressing 'Esc'.
Shift + M
Maximizes the active composition's window and displays the active composition at actual size (100%).
Shift + K
Initiates Mask Mode. Learn to use this tool. Very powerful.
Shift + G
Adjust the Dimensions of the image (essentially like resizing the image).
Shift + B
Brightness & Contrast
Shift + L
Color Balance. If you need more precise color control, use Tone Map (Ctrl+Shift+T).
F6
Access your Preferences. From here, you can specify settings like gamma, point to plug-in folders, adjust Grid settings, file name associations, etc.
Ctrl + Shift + F
Focus. Use this to clear up blurry looking images.
Ctrl + Shift + T Tone Map. Very powerful.
Ctrl + Shift + G
Hide or show Guidelines. Toggles.
Ctrl + Shift + L
'Snaps' objects to Guidelines.
Ctrl + Shift + R
Hide or show Grid. You may specify the height and width of the spacing in the grid by accessing your 'Preferences' (F6).
Ctrl + Shift + N
'Snaps' objects to Grid.

Finally for this part of the tutorial these Shortcuts concern the mouse wheel, (if you have one)

Ctrl + Mouse Wheel Up
Zoom in on active composition.
Ctrl + Mouse Wheel Down
Zoom out on active composition.
Mouse Wheel Up
Scroll active composition up.
Mouse Wheel Down
Scroll active composition down.
Click Mouse Wheel
Displays graphical scroll indicator. Move mouse to desired direction. Click when done.

You may also click and hold the mouse wheel while moving the mouse in the desired direction. Release when done.
