Reducing Image File Sizes.
By Chronos | |
Many people on the internet don't have a broadband connection. It helps for images on both WebPages and signatures in delphiforums to be optimized to save time loading a picture.
The majority of people who have paint programs on the computer have either Paint Shop Pro or Photo Impact. I will show you how to reduce the file size of an image without losing much image quality.
Photo Impact
Create the image that you want in Photo Impact. Look on the top menu for Web.
Select it and then choose Image Optimizer from the drop down menu.
Alternatively, you can press F4 to get to the same point. This opens a new window. In this window you will see two of the same image, reduce the quality to a size that doesn't affect the image too much. Once you are happy with the optimized image click the Save As button to save your optimized image.
Paint Shop Pro
Using PSP is very similar to using Photo Impact but the menu layout is different. When you have created your image in PSP click on File and move down to the Export tab. Then Select the format in which you would like to save the image (i.e. jpeg, gif, png).
Once you select the file format you require a new window will open.
You will see the image that you wish to optimize twice, before and after. All that is required is to alter the compression and you can see the compressed image size on the right of the screen. Once you are happy with the new optimized image size click Ok to save your final picture.
If you haven't got or have used the free trial of Paint Shop Pro or Photo Impact, all is not lost. A search on the internet for "Free Online Image Optimizers" will give you a list of sites that can do this for you. I have found that the best one online that will do both JPEG and GIF formats is at:
