Trains - The EMD SD40.

EMD SD24

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

An EMD SD40 is a 6-axle diesel locomotive built by General Motors Electro-Motive Division between January 1966 and July 1972. Power was provided by a 645E3 16-cylinder engine which generated 3000 horsepower (2.2 MW).
This locomotive shared the same common frame with the SD38, SD39, SDP40, and SD45. 883 examples of this locomotive model were built for American railroads, 330 were built for Canadian railroads and 62 were built for Mexican railroads.
The SD40 was succeeded by an upgraded Dash 2 version called the SD40-2. The very first test bed SD40, EMD 434, constructed on an SD35 frame in July 1964 still runs, albeit with improvements, as Illinois Central/Canadian National 6071.
